The whole course is simply amazing and full of nothing but useful info. What I liked the most is the mindset of taking small solid steps in order to start and keep moving. In other words avoiding the "All or Nothing" attitude, that's exactly what I do in my job, we adapt the exercises to each and every individual so they can start and/or improve their skills according to their own level at that time.

I used to focus on purely communicating the message when I talked to others, but I realized now that I have to choose words that convey a balance of warmth and competence and also cater the words to the audience.

My biggest aha moment was in realizing that I have unnecessary uncertainty that comes across in some of my emails. My action step is to simplify my communication by removing unnecessary words or replace them with warm words.

On a better note - I am so pleased with the success I've achieved and the improvements I've had happen to me - when do phone calls at work and even when talking to management - all as a result of YOUR teaching. Love the tip that you lend out - "Speak on the out breath." That's effective stuff! Thanks Vanessa

Checking in after 2 months of graduating. This course has changed my life. I feel more confident, assertive, and open to new opportunities. -Someone emailed me with a job prospect. I messaged back, just to try out priming. To my shock, he ate it up and absolutely loved it. I've since had a very good meeting with him. It turned out to be a great project that pays well. Good thing I was testing out that skill or it probably would have never happened! -I've also set clear boundaries with a potential employer when negotiating a contract and they decided not to hire me because of it. I'm happy that this was worked out BEFORE and not during. TBH they seemed like crazy makers. Dodged a bullet. My new mantra is "work it out before there is conflict". -I asked a friend what projects she was working on lately, finding out she was working on Virtual Reality stuff. She said that nobody cares, not even her partner (I spotted her flashing a contempt micro expression at him later! Something going on...). This actually led to... -us working together on a passion project. I am a team leader for a design competition (whaaat???) which I assembled a team for. I lead zoom meetings with an agenda and icebreaker. People even now ask for an agenda ahead of time! Agendas are life!!!!! I've gotten compliments actually. (whaat???) It's Strange because I updated my website bio during this course using my log line and it kind of came true. I even wrote that I liked working with new media, which I've never done before, and now I'm doing it. Weird. I would like to say it's the power of intentions, but perhaps it's priming myself and priming others who read my bio. Can't wait to rewatch the course soon. I've been making my way through office hours recordings. Thank you Vanessa and team for your work. I feel ready to take on the world!

Hi Community, I wanted to share that I achieved two milestones thanks to the Science of People School and I am super happy about it! I nailed my first ever keynote in data in front of 100 people and I was even almost enjoying it :) I got a new job with better pay and the funniest part that they didn't choose me for the position I applied for, but then the director reached out to me directly saying that they love my profile and they will want me in their team, they just thought I was too dynamic for that position. So they created one for me which is so much better than the first position! I started people school in december and even though I quickly completed the core lessons, I still feel that there is so much to learn and yet, I had already amazing results and I feel so good about it. I just feel good in my skin, even if I still have weird conversations or I dont always know what to say, I feel powerful and in control. Nailed my first keynote speech! I'm seriously high on dopamine after nailing my first keynote speech at a business women's luncheon. And I attribute much of the success to my learnings already on this course.

My goal for People School was to get a new job and at a higher level. Since People School, I have never had such engaging and fun interviews in my life. My recruiter reached out to a team that didn't hire me to find out why...and then she called me to tell me that a manager was creating a position for me. What?! Last Friday I accepted a Sr. position with an increase in my total package of $100k.

I wasn't able to attend the recent couple of office hours live due to scheduling conflicts, but I did diligently watch and learn from them afterwards. And thanks for checking in, I do have some good news to share. I was exploring for a new job opportunity when I started with People School, I was able to apply what I learned during my networking and interviews. Shortly after I was offered a role of OCM on a huge project. It's an exciting opportunity, in which people skills will play a critical role as the success factor. The feedback I got from my manager after one month in the role was that my calm, assuring and cheerful demeanor was very helpful in managing the stakeholders expectation at this late stage of the project. And my ability to quickly establish connection with the various level of stakeholders enabled me to grasp the technical aspects of the project within a short time. This was a great course, I just wanted to say in the past would obsess over doing things differently in conversations or interactions including emails. I never knew why I would write an email 3 or 4 times before sending it but this course put a label on it. It helped me understand that the things I had been doing was right but now I have a structure or plan to follow that I understand and do with purpose. I feel that I can start working on getting my point across in interactions much easier. Thank you for the course. I would like to work on the 3 conversation steps as well as the Driver/Passenger roles in the conversation. I think this is the part I struggle with the most. I will be watching the skills many times over as there is a lot of information to soak up. Thank you again!

My biggest "aha" moment of the entire course, was realizing that this overall topic been the most interesting thing for me to learn. This was the best learning experience in my life so far. If you struggle with communication or relating with people and wonder if things will ever get better, my journey from struggle to strength will give you hope. I'm here in Massachusetts for my birthday, and it feels so powerful to be back. My Birthday was Saturday & this is a true full-circle moment for me. Six years ago, I came to New England during a very difficult time in my life with many challenges. I was going through a breakup and struggled with expressing myself effectively and understanding people. My world felt turbulent, a constant storm of anxieties and self-doubt. I was desperate to escape the relentless noise in my head and the suffocating weight of loneliness. I hoped a change of scenery would fix my problems, but it didn't. What that trip did give me was the space to begin investing in myself, even though I didn't realize it at the time. In the years since, I've done a lot of hard work in this community along with other ones. I started showing up on Apryl's calls, even when fear screamed at me to stay hidden. I began saying YES to challenges that terrified me, like leading teams or sharing my story publicly. Showing up on those calls and getting involved in the community was a game-changer for me. Being active has connected me with amazing people, and I've learned a great deal from them. Now, being back in New England feels completely different. I'm not here to escape; I'm here to celebrate. This birthday isn't just about getting older—it's about honoring the person I've become and the beautiful life I've created. This past year has been my best yet. My life today often feels surreal, but I know it's real because I put in the work. I'm doing things I once never even imagined were possible and continue to surprise myself. I'm a completely different person and am running my team at work and other places as well and this is just the beginning. My biggest 'aha' was right at the beginning; the charisma scale! I lean hard competent at work and need to warm it up! The additional skills on priming, likability and teams will help me put this into practice. My first big action step is to prime my meeting with the businesses owner on Monday and to prime my staff meeting on Tuesday by using language that is positive, collaborative, safe, and warm. I will also try out some raves!

Hi Vanessa - a month or so after completing People School, I can't tell you how helpful it has been. I'm taking a certificate program in Executive Leadership Coaching at American University and having the skills in building trust, etc. has really been great. And micro expressions are like magic for coaching sessions (especially when the expression doesn't match the words).

It's been over 2 weeks since graduating and I have made some amazing new friends at church and social gatherings. I've been able to connect with new people like never before! For me the single biggest 'aha' was that people to people interactions are not random, nor are they impossible to understand; they are rooted in science. With practice I will be able to choose how I want interactions to go, rather than feeling at the mercy of others. You've given me hope that I can change! Starting with any skills that I struggle with in the comprehension test, then the ones I have identified as high impact for me (2, 7 & 11). I am excited to share with all of my 2025 People School family that a little after 10 PM last night I received an email notifying me that my California Real Estate license was complete and now official! Thank you for all your support....especially the encouragement surrounding the testing portion. Step 1: Find a brokerage to work with. (As "only" a licensee salesperson, all are required to be under the supervision of a broker. Think of it as an internship or apprenticeship.) THIS will be my first real world chance to apply what I am learning in People School! Exciting. Scary! Step 2: Learn the brokerages systems Step 3: Find clients Step 4: Be SUCCESSFUL! I had two AHA moments in this lesson. First: how much explanatory gestures can reinforce the understanding of a message, and make them more memorable. And the corollary of this, the distrust that can be created if our hands are not visible or if our gestures are incongruous with our words. And a more general comment, just 2 weeks after starting the training, I'm already seeing a change in the impact I can have when I use the techniques I've learned. I have to say I was a bit skeptical that it would show up so quickly. It's really great!🙏

Oh my, where to start. This course was worth every penny and every minute invested. I feel encouraged by what I've accomplished up to starting people school. I'm realizing I have good people instincts. And now, after people school, I am seeing where I have been operating in the dark - where my blind spots are - and that's so valuable. There is work to be done and that is going to start with me going back to the beginning and simply reading my notes - I took a ton! I went slowly through the course, pausing the video often, to write and capture thoughts. All through the course I thought about my employee team and how I show up for them as well as how they show up for me and for each other. We are a diverse bunch and there is so much for us to work on. Foundationally, we have psychological safety within our team, though it is easy for that to get rocked off balance. Covid was so disruptive, yet my core team made it through - together - never skipping a beat. Now, post covid - it's actually harder (believe it or not), so my FIRST order of business is to measure the teams feelings on personal/mental/positional safety. And then work with them to determine what actions we need to lean into so that they feel rock solid in this important mind space.

I found this session quite enjoyable and would like to express my sincerest appreciation to Vanessa for her efforts. I wanted to share my experience with this course, which I've gone through multiple times now, and it continues to offer "aha" moments. Recently, after watching the latest module, I've adopted a new mindfulness practice: before starting any conversation, I ask myself, "Does this moment require me to respond with warmth or competence?" This simple yet profound habit has been incredibly effective, especially in an office setting. I've noticed significant changes in my posture, choice of words, and delivery. Moreover, people's responses to me have noticeably improved. I'm delighted with the results so far. Though it's still a new habit, it's proving to be an easier form of mindfulness practice to maintain. Thank you for quantifying charisma for me.

What People School helped me with the most is alleviating my social anxiety. (And that is why I purchased the course.) While I haven't had a lot of social interactions thanks to 2020, the ones I have have had are a far cry from the stress inducing, sometimes panic-attack inducing, interactions of the past. I'm more confident, reading people with better accuracy, and applying what I've learned. This is life changing!

I loved this course SO MUCH! In fact, so much so that I am gifting it to some deserving family member. I really wish the whole world could take it as I am a strong believer that relationships define the quality of our lives and our relationship with ourselves is the first step. You taught me a whole new level of interacting with intention to get the best results possible in all the areas of my life. Biggest aha was impossible to choose but the one I remember without reviewing everything again is the 3 levels of unlocking me too's in the Likeability Skill - using level 2 questions with my S.O. was life changing and so rewarding. Priceless!! 2. My darn logline will be my first big action step. The lack of a logline has been stopping me from actually starting that you tube channel I've been talking about for over a year! I have a good start to it - now to make it attention grabbing!

My Breakthrough Realization or my "aha" moment: Confessing this was a challenge, but I took a 2 week break from people school skills which allowed me to confront my insecurities. Although receiving constructive feedback from the recent workshop was initially discouraging, it was the spark that ignited a pivotal moment of self-discovery. I realized that striving for perfection is not the ultimate goal of this journey. Well, I may have stumbled on my first logline attempt, but hey, at least I have room for improvement! It's about becoming a better version of myself every day and embracing the challenges that come with growth. The struggles I face are not unique, but they are a chance for me to learn and improve. This newfound realization has given me a fresh perspective and the determination to move forward with confidence, embracing every opportunity for self-discovery and growth.
